Tips for the busy pool owner

Pool maintenance when you’re busy can be a daunting task. Particularly if you’re working longer days or you’re going away for the summer break, pool maintenance is probably the last thing on your mind.

And while we get that time is precious, there are a few things you can do to ensure a sparkling pool, even in the busiest of months.

Our top pool maintenance tips for the busy pool owner.

  1. Cover your pool:

A pool cover is the easiest way to look after your pool. First and foremost, it keeps out debris, meaning you won’t have to spend hours cleaning leaves from the bottom of your pool each week. It helps conserve water, which in summer is incredibly important. You’ll save money on heating, water bills and chemicals, and in the long run will result in far less maintenance.

  1. Sanitise your pool:

We recommend you sanitise your pool regularly to keep it healthy. That’s only 5 minutes a week and considering the amount of time and money you’ll save if you have to get your pool professionally cleaned, it’s worth it.

Alternatively, our BioGuard Smarter Sticks are an ideal solution for low maintenance pool sanitisation and if you’re going away or on holiday. These premium quality chlorine sticks gradually dissolve, to control algae and bacteria. Just pop them in the skimmer basket.

  1. Purchase a timer:

A pool timer is a handy investment. Once installed, your filter will automatically turn on and off for any desired period of time. Great if you’re going away or not around the home.

During summer, we recommend running your filter for a minimum of 8 hours a day – 2 hours in the morning and 6 hours in the afternoon.

  1. Shock your pool every week:

Particularly in summer, shocking your pool with BioGuard Lite or Salt Pool Sparkle will keep it looking pristine. In addition to your normal routine (not a replacement for chlorine), 10 minutes every week, will pay dividends on those hot summer days.

It’s important to note, consistent pool maintenance should still be continued whenever possible. Your pool is one of the bigger investments you can make. That’s why keeping it in working order should be a top priority.

Enjoy your summer!
