Most swimming pools in Australia and New Zealand are salt. This means that the salt added to your water, is converted to chlorine through your saltwater chlorinator, or salt cell. The converted chlorine kills bacteria in the water and keeps your water sanitised.

During the peak summer months, your salt cell works hard to convert salt to chlorine. Overtime, chalky white calcium scale can build up in the cell. That’s why now is a great time of year to do a maintenance TLC routine on your salt cell!

By performing a simple salt cell clean, we can remove any scale deposits and ensure your system is running efficiently once more.

IMPORTANT – Always check the warranty of your salt cell. Ensure you perform the clean according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

For a BioGuard Gold Chlorinator:

STEP 1: Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves.

STEP 2: Turn off the circulation system (pump and filter).

STEP 3: Remove/unscrew the unit from its setting.

STEP 4: Place it on any non-metallic surface (ensure the surface is even, as you will be pouring a cleaning liquid into it).

Step 5: Open BioGuard Salt Cell Cleaner and pour the entire contents into the cell. You will notice the calcium start to break down, as bubbles begin to form. Any excess liquid that doesn’t fit in the cell can be poured into the deep end of the pool.

STEP 6: Leave for 10 – 30 minutes.

STEP 7: Pour the contents into the deep end of the pool, and rinse the cell with a garden hose.

STEP 8: Reinstall the cell and restart circulation.

It’s as simple as that! It’s always a good idea to rinse any spilled solution from surrounding surfaces. Do this once a year to keep your salt cell running at its peak efficiency.
